Bathroom in need of an update? Here’s some inspiration. We’ve found some of the best new looks and designs for your space – from modern shower room ideas to chic, marble styles and plush, luxurious designs.

Refreshing a bathroom doesn’t always require a total overhaul: it can be as simple as swapping the sink, the faucet or bathroom wall lights. And this year has seen the launch of some seductive new collections. From patterned sinks, taps and light switches in bold finishes, curved scalloped fish scale tiles, colourful mosiac tiles and sculptural freestanding baths to wood finishes, Crittall-style shower screens and double ended sinks, designers are moving away from hard, angular lines and instead leaning towards furniture and fittings in more flowing shapes.

PLATE MATES

A one-size-fits-all approach just doesn’t cut it for today’s most design-conscious bathrooms. With the clue in its name, Axor’s MyEdition tap collection lets users choose from 15 surfaces in metal, wood, marble, leather and porcelain, making the design work for your existing scheme, not vice versa.

FINE ART

Choosing something pretty to look at in the bathroom won’t be hard with Kohler’s Wading Pool basins. Featuring 17th-century Dutch art on onyx backdrops, they’re super-chic.

SCALE BACK

We all desire a little Zen in the bathroom, making the Japonica collection from Artisans of Devizes
a natural choice. Inspired by traditional Japanese gardens, each marble tile mimics organic shapes, from leaves to fish scales, all in soothing shades of soft mint or dappled grey.

TURNED ON

Martin Brudnizki has taken the mundane and made it magnificent with a range of bathroom brassware for Drummonds. Expect considered, ergonomic design across a choice of taps and showers, all finished in brass, chrome and nickel.

IN VOGUE

The ‘it’ colour for bathrooms in 2018? Rose gold – seen here on radiator giant Vogue UK’s Ballerina towel warmer. Mixing old and new, it boasts period-style ball joints and crosshead valves with an oh-so-shiny, rose-tinted finish.

SHAPE-SHIFTER

Take a Crittall-style frame with frosty Stippolye glass, add a few elegant Art Deco-esque shapes and the Victoria shower door by Drench is born – just one of the many new designs at CP Hart’s expansive Waterloo showroom. This door comes in a range of sizes and even has a towel bar that adds modern-day convenience to its old-school aesthetic.

SPLASHING AROUND

We couldn’t tell you what we love most about the recent bathroom collection from India Mahdavi for Bisazza. Its mosaic tiles, the onomatopoeia-style design names, or the ice-cream hues of pistachio, strawberry and blueberry it comes in.

MATT WORK

Let two Italian designers loose with the Scandi look for a bathroom to write home about. Designed by A Parisio and G Pezzano for Ceramica Cielo, the I Catini collection features basins, mirrors and towel rails and holders. Ceramic, marble and steel form the foundations, while the real fun begins with the choice of circular, oval or rectangular basins in 16 matt shades.

GO WITH THE GRAIN

Consider this – wood basins by Indigenous crafted from a solid ash timber that’s been dried for nine months, hollowed out with a wave-like shape and treated with eight layers of waterproof finish. Talk about rustic with a polished edge.

TILE STYLE

Clad your bathroom walls in designs from the Marbles collection by Gemini Tiles and no one will suspect they’re not the real deal. You’ve got soft, neutral colours, veined surfaces and a glossy finish on ceramic and porcelain to thank (with a 3D-effect waved rectangular design chucked in for good measure).

DROP DEAD GORG

Switch on Porter Bathroom’s Kew drop light and watch as it shines like the moon. Its illuminated shape hangs from a fitting in polished chrome, silver nickel or polished or antique brass and can either be wall-mounted or used as a pendant.

FULL EXPOSURE

Taps and mixers get all the basin-based glory, but what about the water pipes? Tearing up the bathroom rulebook, Jee-O’s Flow Series brings the piping out from behind the wall, creating a sleek design in brushed stainless steel that doubles as a towel bar. Genius!

CLEAN LINES

The beauty of Matki-One’s Pivot for Corner shower enclosure lies in its minimal, almost-didn’t-see-it design. Its stainless-steel slim top rack comes in Chrome, Silver and Architectural Bronze. Inconspicuous needn’t mean unremarkable.

SHARED APPEAL

Forget your hotel-style his and hers sinks – the modern way to go Dutch is with a double trough basin. West One Bathrooms does a fine example with this latest addition to its Broadway collection. Available in ceramic gloss or matt, go wall-mounted or keep toiletries in check with the optional storage stand.

WONDER WALL

Function can get in the way of going all-out in bathrooms, so it’s hats off to the team at Wall&Decò who have devised a waterproof system of primers and protective finishes for the brand’s divinely decorative wallpapers.

TOUGHEN UP

Metal is big news in bathrooms this season. Italian brand Scavolini has teamed up with Diesel Living, tapping into the brand’s edgy, masculine aesthetic and giving it a glam twist to bring us the Diesel Open Workshop bathroom. Think aluminium, industrial-style taps and modular shelving systems alongside white mineral-marble basins.

WOOD LOOKS

Richly coloured woods are big news in bathrooms this season. The timber-clad Lume range from Alternative Bathrooms – featuring vanities, basins, shelving and mirrors – spans shades of oak, ash, walnut and pine. Set against an OTT botanical wallpaper for the feel of a tropical forest.
